When I think about sustainability, I don’t just think of compost bins and rain barrels (though I love both). I think of my grandmother’s farm—the soft hum of bees, the gentle rhythm of nature, and the way nothing ever went to waste. It was a place where persimmons were plucked right off the tree, peppermint grew wild by the stream, and childhood rides through the hay field stirred a dream in my heart.
That dream still lives here—on our little patch of earth, even while living in a 41-foot RV with four kids, two dogs, two cats, and big plans for the land God’s placed on our hearts.
So, What Is Sustainable Agriculture?
At its core, sustainable agriculture is a way of farming and raising animals that protects the land, honors the animals, and supports the family living on it. It’s about working with the land—not against it—so that future generations can grow food, raise animals, and live in connection with God’s creation.
It means:
Feeding your soil, not just your plants
Raising animals with dignity and purpose
Reducing waste and giving everything a second life
Keeping things local, seasonal, and intentional
Choosing longevity over speed or ease
Why Does It Matter?
Because modern agriculture often trades longevity for convenience. Soil is stripped of nutrients, animals are crowded in unhealthy conditions, and the wisdom of small family farms is often overlooked.
But you and I? We can do it differently.
Every backyard compost pile, every chicken raised with care, every handmade product from scratch—it matters. Whether you’re on 40 acres or a balcony with a few pots, your choices ripple outward.
What Does It Look Like In Real Life?
Here at Radiant Farmstead, we’re doing what we can with what we’ve got:
Starting small-batch composting
Dreaming up a rotational grazing plan for future goats and cows
Saving food scraps, reusing jars, and feeding animals intentionally
Choosing simplicity when the world says “more, faster, bigger”
And friend, it’s far from perfect. But sustainability isn’t about perfection—it’s about faithfulness. About stewarding what we’ve been given with care and love.
A Well-Watered Promise
Isaiah 58:11 says,
“The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land… You will be like a well-watered garden.”
That’s the heart of this place. A home rooted in faith, family, and the belief that slow, good things still grow.
